Auckland Tuesday 6 November 2007 9.00am – 4.00pm
The workshop will address the following two main areas:
How to Teach Language through Pictures
Discover a concrete way to represent expressive vocabulary using pictures. You will learn how to teach language and literacy to early communicators through core vocabulary and issues in teaching core vocabulary to support learning in school.
The Continuum of Learning
It is often difficult to describe to parents the “big picture” for invention and instruction of children who are just beginning to use a communication system. Likewise, it is also difficult for therapists and teachers to have a clear picture of the direction their invention should take and areas in which it should focus.
This session is practical with hands on opportunities to identify communication skills and abilities, desired outcomes and additional skills needed to achieve communication competencies when using augmentative and alternative communication.
Numbers are strictly limited as this is a free workshop.
Morning tea and lunch are supplied.
